DSMO Part: 1

By Dr. Renae Norton

I have made a new discovery that I cannot wait to share. I know I have said this before, but this one is different. Huge! The fountain of youth? Miracle Medicine? Seriously, this is big:-)

I’ve known about it for many years. It was very popular and then it seemed to disappear, and I lost track of it as well. The fact that it disappeared was not an accident. The pharmaceutical companies don’t like it because it works so well, and it’s cheap, and they can’t make money off it, which of course, is the bottom line. Never mind that it has incredible healing power and could change people’s lives. As is often the case with natural remedies that they cannot exploit or profit from, they put out a lot of propaganda about it and also influenced the sale of it by successfully lobbying to restrict its availability.

I am speaking of DMSO, AKA, dimethyl sulfoxide. It is a powerful free radical scavenger and an effective anti-inflammatory agent. It also has pain-relieving, collagen-softening, and joint pain reduction characteristics, making it an incredibly effective natural pain reliever.

So, what is DMSO?

Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) is a sulfur based, colorless, transparent fluid. It rose to fame due to its ability to easily pass through the skin, and other biological membranes, giving it amazing potential for healing. Because of its ability to penetrate deep into the body and work at a mitochondrial level it can bring about real healing.

First discovered in late 19th century Germany as a byproduct of wood pulping, DMSO can also be found in fruits and in the sea. Today it is a sulfur-based by-product of the manufacture of paper. Yup:)

We have talked about the importance of sulfur before if you have followed my work. Recall that the healthiest people in the world are the people who live in places where there is more sulfur in the atmosphere, such as near hot springs and around volcanic regions, specifically along the Pacific Ring of Fire, so it is no surprise that DMSO has such incredibly powerful healing potential.

Sulfur is an element that is essential to life. It is the eighth most prevalent element in the human body, not as sulfur itself, but in combination with other elements, most often, in complex molecules and, less often, in simple molecules such as DMSO.

When Should You Use DMSO?

Well, for just about anything Involving pain, inflammation, rash, viruses, illness etc. etc.

Here’s a list of conditions that have been shown to respond well to DMSO although it is not meant to be exhaustive:

  • Arthritis
  • Inflammatory diseases
  • Joint pain
  • Cancer side-effects (pain)
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Psoriasis
  • Shingles (Yes, shingles)
  • Candida
  • Eczema
  • Tendonitis
  • Interstitial Cystitis
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Amyloidosis
  • Scleroderma
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Diabetic Neuropathy Pain
  • Varicose and Spider veins
  • Burns and scar tissue
  • Musculoskeletal disorders
  • Furuncular otitis
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Muscle spasms
  • Bursitis
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
  • General stiffness and soreness
  • To improve range of motion

That is a long list, right?

I have personally used DMSO on my replacement knee as well as the other knee, which in theory will ultimately need to be replaced as well.  (Thanks to all those years of en pointe ballet and, of course, the nasty the vodka tonics.) For the first time, I am seriously considering not replacing the left knee because it is so much improved with DMSO.

I have also used it on my hands, one of which was quite gnarled with arthritis until I began using the DMSO. I’m not making this up and I’m not imagining it as my massage therapist noticed it almost immediately during my last massage. I only see her once a month now as my health has improved drastically in the last several years. Within a month of using the DMSO the fingers of my right hand, where I have a metal plate and metal pins, which have caused the arthritis, was improved so much that she asked me what the heck I was doing and commented that the only time she’s seen that degree of recovery in her other clients was following surgical repair. Yay DMSO!

What Are the Side Effects?

Side effects of DMSO can be temporary local irritation, a sort of dryness and slight itchiness of the skin and the taste and/or smell of garlic upon use.

To find out more about DMSO stay tuned. In Part 2 of this series, I will talk about the therapeutic properties of DMSO.  In part three I will describe in detail how to use DMSO safely. Please do not use DMSO without support from a practitioner who uses DMSO in her practice.
